Tesla’s charging standard gets a boost with the Volkswagen Group joining
Tesla the North American Charging Standard (NACS) is becoming increasingly popular among electric vehicle manufacturers.
Volkswagen announced that it will adopt NACS for its electric vehicles in North America, along with its subsidiaries Audi, Porsche and Scout Motors. The change will take effect in 2025, but the manufacturer is also exploring ways to offer adapters for existing models.
NACS will enable owners Volkswagen electric vehicles access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, which has over 15,000 stations in North America. They will also be able to use more than 3,800 DC fast chargers operated by Electrify America and Electrify Canada.
Volkswagen is not the only car manufacturer that accepts NACS. GM, Volvo, Polestar, Mercedes, Honda, BMW, Lucid and others have also committed to supporting NACS in their future electric vehicles.
Meanwhile, ChargePoint has begun adding the NACS connector to its charging network electric vehicles in October. Electrify America plans to do the same by 2025. As more and more players join NACS, the Tesla charging solution is becoming the dominant standard in the electric vehicle industry.
