TCL’s new NXTPAPER 3.0 screen technology is said to improve visual health

TCL claims its next-generation NXTPAPER display technology is optimized for humans, and has several enhancements and features designed to improve visual health. Thus, TCL's NXTPAPER 3.0 screen technology filters harmful blue light up to 61 percent, while maintaining sharp images, while at the same time containing optimizations for the senses of sight and touch.

The new technology was made official and announced by TCL in Las Vegas as part of CES 2024, and in addition to the mentioned filtering of blue light and maintaining a sharp image, this type of screen also maintains deep contrast, vivid colors and natural movements.

This is achieved by incorporating a CPL (Circularly Polarized Light) screen, which simulates the “emission-reflection-refraction” of natural light, creating a visual effect that mimics the experience of reading books in natural light. This improves the paper-like appearance of the CPL screen and provides additional eye comfort.

As for the NXTPAPER display software, it includes an eye care assistant that helps users develop healthy digital viewing habits. It also has a rest reminder that encourages users to take breaks during extended use and helps them adopt the popular “20 – 20 – 20” eye care rule. This means taking a 20-second break every 20 minutes and focusing on an object 20 feet away. The software also has a function to detect poor lighting and determine the excessive proximity of the user.

Returning to NXTPAPER 3.0, the new technology features a higher refresh rate and DC Dimming for a flicker-free experience. It also comes with an improved adaptive color temperature mode that allows the NXTPAPER display to automatically adjust the color temperature based on weather and ambient light for a comfortable viewing experience.

NXTPAPER 3.0 technology will be used on the NXTPAPER 14 Pro tablet, TAB 10 NXTPAPER 5G tablet and TCL 50 series smartphones, also announced at CES 2024. It will also feature the NXTPAPER 3.0 “three-in-one” VersaView UI user interface optimized for different scenarios.

The first of those three displays will be intended for regular use with the default low blue light and no yellow glare. The second display is a low-contrast paper color mode for reading, and the third is a black and white ink paper color mode for a pleasant e-book reading experience.
