Apple plans to equip all models of the iPhone 16 series with an improved Action key

Allegedly, Apple plans to equip the series iPhone 16 capacitive Action keyunlike its predecessors who had a mechanical one.

The iPhone 16 series, which is expected to appear in the second half of 2024 as the successor to the iPhone 15 series of smartphones, could be equipped with Apple's new Action key.

While the company equipped the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models with a new button, a new report states that the company plans to equip all four models in the new series with a customizable button, which is expected in an improved form.

MacRumors reports that Apple will include an Action key on all iPhone 16 series models arriving next year. Unlike the iPhone 15 series, the non-Pro models of the iPhone 16 are also expected to have this new button.

It also mentions that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus could be the last iPhone models to come with the old feature — even the iPhone SE 4 is reportedly expected to arrive in 2025 with the new button.

The entire iPhone 16 series will be upgraded with a capacitive Action key

Meanwhile, the report also states that the Action button itself on the iPhone 16 series will be upgraded next year. Instead of using a regular mechanical button like the volume rocker and power button, the new button will provide capacitive-style functionality, similar to the iPhone SE (2022) home button.

It is unclear whether all models in the series will be equipped with the redesigned Action key codenamed Atlas.

When Apple revealed the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models this year, the company particularly highlighted the new functionality offered by the Action key, expanding its use from the toggle between vibrate and ring modes on the iPhone.

With this Action key, you can change ringtones or access accessibility features, launch the camera app or magnifier app, start or stop voice memo or flash, and enable or disable focus modes on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Switching to a capacitive key means it would be able to detect different levels of pressure. However, the most loyal fans will have to wait a few more months before Apple presents the iPhone 16 series next year.

As we wrote earlier, it is expected that the screens on the iPhone 16 Pro models will be more larger than the current seriesand the Pro Max version will get i Super telephoto lens.
