Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 chipset will bring performance similar to flagship models
Last year, Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 processor, bringing a significant leap in performance to mid-range phones. Now there are rumors of another major upgrade in the next, Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 chipset.
According to writing Android Authority, the upcoming Snapdragon 7 Plus processor, possibly the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3, is set for a “major upgrade.” Specifically, a DCS insider suggests that the chipset will adopt the architecture Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the latest and most advanced Snapdragon processor powering premium phones from 2024, like the OnePlus 12 and Galaxy S24 series, which are launching today.
This chip boasts an octa-core CPU layout with a powerful, large Cortex-X4 core, five medium Cortex-A720 cores and two small Cortex-A520 cores. We assume that it is possible that the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 could have the same CPU cores.
Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 core
To get a clearer idea of what the cores do, think of your smartphone’s CPU as a team of workers, each tasked with performing different tasks. A large core, as a team leader, handles the most demanding tasks, such as running high-quality games or complex applications.
Intermediate cores, like experienced workers, handle regular tasks like browsing the Internet and sending messages. And small cores, like interns, handle background tasks like notifications and managing application processes.
By using a combination of large, medium and small cores, SoCs can achieve a balance between performance and efficiency. This allows them to handle a variety of tasks without sacrificing battery life.
For this reason, we expect a wider use of the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 compared to its predecessor. This one was limited to certain devices from Xiaomi and Realme, like Redmi Note 13 Pro and Poco F5.
The Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 has the potential to deliver significant improvements in mid-range smartphone performance, providing the capabilities of a premium model at an affordable price. All this can have a significant impact on the market, increasing the availability of high-performance devices for a wider range of consumers.
