The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra may still retain the 10x optical zoom on the telephoto camera, with an additional 5x zoom lens

Although we initially heard on several pages that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra phone might lose one of the best features that adorns the current flagship, i.e. serious zoom camera capabilities, now completely different information arrives. Namely, Samsung allegedly decided to keep the 10x optical zoom on the periscope telephoto lens, and the additional telephoto lens will get a 5x optical zoom instead of 3x.

The upcoming Samsung flagship, i.e. the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, should have a main camera with 200 MP, along with 12 MP on the ultra-wide and 50 MP on the telephoto camera, which, like the predecessor of this phone, will have two sensors. One will thus have a periscope-type lens that offers 10x optical zoom, and the other a “regular” telephoto lens with 5x zoom. The sensors of this camera, as the Asian portal The Elec writes, will be Sunny Optical and manufactured by Samsung, unlike the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which has two Sony IMX754 sensors for these purposes.

The sensor of the ultra-wide camera will probably be Namuga and Sunny Optical, and the 12 MP selfie camera will be provided by Namuga and MCNEX, the portal reports. However, given that this is yet another unofficial piece of information, and completely opposite to the previous one dealing with the upcoming phone's zoom camera, it shouldn't be taken for granted.

When it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus models, they will reportedly have 50 MP on the main camera, 12 MP on the ultra-wide and 10 MP on the telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. These are actually specifications that mostly overlap with the current S23 generation of phones.

In addition to the camera features, the portal also claims that the South Korean company plans to ship as many as 35.2 million phones of the upcoming series in 2024, namely: 15.9 million pieces of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (which is 45 percent of the total planned delivery for the series), 13, 5 million of the base model (38 percent) and 5.8 million of the Plus model (16 percent of the total shipment of the series).

As the launch of the new phones approaches, more and more insider information about them comes out, and although many of them are likely to be accurate, we should not forget that there will probably be deviations from the official information. However, the dilemmas should be resolved very soon, because the launch should take place already in January, so if you are thinking about buying a new phone, it might not be bad to wait a little longer.
