The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is free on the Epic Games Store for less than 24 hours
Sci-fi game The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Editionwhich was developed by Obsidian Entertainmentcan be downloaded for free at Epic Games Store as a Christmas special. You have until tomorrow at 5 pm to permanently add it to your library.
Spacer’s Choice Edition was announced in late February and released in early March by publisher Private Division. This version provides an upgraded version of The Outer Worlds with improved graphics (better vegetation, ground textures, character models, the introduction of volumetric lighting and even new animations), an increased level of experience and a whole new content added compared to the base game, including Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos.
In the very beginning, the launch The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition was quite plagued with bugs and performance issues, to the point that Obsidian Entertainment’s development team was forced to apologize for the buggy release. Over the following months, the studio released various patches to correct these flaws, and now on Steam, the recent user reviews section shows that the game has a 95% approval rating.
The Outer Worlds is pretty much what you’d expect from Obsidian. A first-person action RPG that has a great setting, a fantastic scenario, and exceptional, complex characters. However, the game does not bring any great excitement, so it cannot be ranked at the very top of its genre. Still, there’s a lot to like as long as you know what to expect, and there’s potential for a sequel that could be much better, especially if the developers have a bigger budget to work with.
Since there aren’t many sci-fi RPGs out there, you shouldn’t miss out on this game, because if nothing else – it won’t cost you anything. Obsidian Entertainment is already working on a sequel, despite now being busy finishing Avowed, which is expected next year, The Outer Worlds 2 has its own separate development team and we may not be too far away from the launch of this sequel.
In case we missed to say, the game is free to download on this link until Tuesday at 5 p.m.
