The new Lenovo laptop is a hybrid that works as two devices in one on both Windows and Android tablet OS

Although hybrid devices are nothing new, the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid laptop brings a new approach in this regard, considering that it can run on two different operating systems. However, it is not a classic combination of laptop-tablet devices, because the new Lenovo laptop is a hybrid in the sense that it literally represents two separate devices in one.

So, it is not just a single device with two modes, as with traditional laptop-tablet combinations, but in fact it is an Android computer, but also a Windows computer, connected in one unit.

In laptop mode, this device functions as a normal Windows computer with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, one terabyte of SSD with up to 32 GB of working memory. However, when you detach its 14-inch, 2.5K resolution OLED display, it transforms into an Android tablet with a touchscreen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ chip, 12GB of RAM, and front- and rear-facing cameras.

The second mode, the company claims, is especially useful with the Lenovo Tab Pen Plus for slide presentations, the company said at this year's CES.

Each part of this device has a separate battery – 38 watt hours in the tablet and 75 watt hours in the laptop – which means they can be used independently or together by connecting to a monitor, keyboard or mouse.

Users can even connect a keyboard wirelessly as an accessory to the tablet, and the “Hybrid Stream” mode allows the user to use the device as a standard laptop, but with a small window on the side where he can access Android applications in “high quality and low latency”, according to Lenovo.

Although the company says the new Lenovo laptop is designed for media content creators, designers and logistics professionals, it adds that the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 is designed for almost any task and almost any user could benefit from the dual functionality. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid will cost $1,999 and up, and should be available on the market in the second quarter of this year.
