The famous regional website Titlovi is shutting down as of February 1

Titlovi.comone of the few regional websites that has practically become an institution and has been up-to-date for practically two decades, found itself on the verge of shutting down.

We don't believe that there are uninformed users of the regional internet scene who don't know the purpose of the Titlovi site, but it's not bad to remember: this place brings together hundreds of volunteers who translate dozens of subtitles a day for a wide variety of popular and less popular movies and series in several regional languages, mostly with English, but also some others.

Nikola, the site administrator, published this news on the forum in the news section, and then on the front page of the site, which did not leave any of the users indifferent. Here's his announcement in full:

“Hello everyone.

Unfortunately, I have to share with you something that is very difficult for me to say.
After a lot of thinking, I came to the conclusion that I have to close the site.
It was not easy for me to make this decision.

Namely, the site has been dependent on other projects that financed it for a long time, but that is no longer an option.
In other words, the site has become too much of a financial burden for me.

Planned closure of the site on February 1, 2024.

The option that I can possibly see is to give the site away to someone who would like it
could maintain.

Thank you for everything and I hope to see you online again!”

However, as Nikola stated, there is hope that the announced closure may not happen. As this site has been active for so many years and practically many users donate subtitles which they process themselves, on the forum several users gave constructive suggestions on how to preserve this oasis, from which tens of thousands of users have had great help to date.

Some suggest opening an account to collect donations to maintain the site, maybe find someone who has the time and money to take on this whole project, and some even suggest membership fees (which doesn't sound like a viable option to us).

Anyway, we're sure that almost every one of us is a member of the Titlovi site and forum, so it would be good if you join the discussion on their forumif you haven't already.

If any regional project deserved to continue to exist, then this one is certainly at the top of that list.
