Samsung Galaxy S23, S22 and S21 get January update with over 70 security fixes
Several generations Samsung Galaxy device, is getting the January security update, as well as the latest flip Galaxy devices. This last update is supposed to be pre the arrival of OneUI 6.1
According to information from the website SamMobile, January security patch for the year 2024 it has arrived for the Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series in Europe. Owners of the latest series of flagship devices will find firmware version S91xBXXS3BWL3 when updating with a download of just under 400MB. Those with a Galaxy S22 should see S90xBXXS7DWL3, while S21 devices use G99xBXXS9FWL9. It should be noted that the appearance update has not arrived for the FE series devices, at least for now.
Samsung itself is rolling out a few fixes, however, according to the changelog, the update brings nearly 75 fixes. Most fixes have a high priority according to the priority scale of this South Korean manufacturer. The company has included a fix related to its “Notification Service,” which could allow an attacker to access user information. This update applies to devices running Android 11 to Android 14.

A high-level fix is coming for the Bluetooth pairing process on Galaxy devices. Samsung explains that this update should address a vulnerability where an attacker could pair a device without user interaction.
Also, the January security update may restore Samsung’s screen protection measures against burn-in issues. The company has officially acknowledged the issue, stating that it will arrive in January during the “next version of the update”. Unfortunately, it is not clear whether the protection is implemented with these patches. To clarify, the burn-in protection measure slightly shifts the pixels on your screen to preserve the OLED screen.
The update is currently available for the following Galaxy devices: Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy A52 (5G), Galaxy Note 20
Since this update was first spotted in Europe, the Galaxy S23 series and other devices should get it in other continents soon. Your Samsung Galaxy device should start downloading automatically, but if it doesn’t, you can check manually by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
In the meantime, we expect the official launch of the Galaxy S24 series on January 17 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. Samsung confirmed this in early January while also hinting at new things to come. In addition to the S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra, Samsung is preparing to introduce “Galaxy AI”.
Samsung’s approach to artificial intelligence is thought to use a model called “Gauss”, combining on-device services with cloud AI support. One of the first features they announced is called “AI Live Translate Call,” which should help users see real-time translations in audio and text formats.
