Samsung Electronics is expanding its line of Odyssey gaming monitors with new OLED models at CES 2024
Among the new models are Odyssey OLED G8, Odyssey OLED G6 and the upgraded Odyssey OLED G9
Samsung Electronics has announced the premiere of the new Odyssey OLED gaming monitors at CES® 2024, the world’s largest technology event organized by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) next week in Las Vegas.
The new OLED models offer the performance and visual clarity gamers demand from their monitors and include the Odyssey OLED G9 (model name: G95SD), Odyssey OLED G8 (model name: G80SD) and Odyssey OLED G6 (model name: G60SD).
The Odyssey OLED G9 model is a 49-inch curved gaming monitor with DQHD (5,120×1,440) resolution and 32:9 aspect ratio, as well as other advanced features. The Odyssey OLED G8 is the first flat 32-inch Samsung OLED gaming monitor with 4K UHD (3,840×2,160) resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Both monitors have a refresh rate of 240 Hz and a GTG response time of 0.03 ms. The Odyssey OLED G6 is a 27-inch QHD (2,560×1,440) monitor that supports a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 360Hz refresh rate, and a GTG response time of 0.03ms.
„Along with game genres, gaming platforms are becoming more and more diverse“, said Hun Chang, executive vice president of visual displays at Samsung Electronics. “The new Samsung OLED Odyssey gaming monitors will provide gamers with a more immersive environment and innovative technology that personalizes their gaming experience and meets and exceeds their needs.“
Technologies that enable precise shades
All three new models are characterized by non-glare OLED technology that reduces light reflection to a minimum and thus offers an even better viewing experience without additional equipment, with constant brightness and color in almost any light.
With VESA DisplayHDR™ True Black 400, these monitors deliver incredible detail and vibrant colors regardless of the game or content being displayed. In addition, they support AMD FreeSync™ Premium Pro for smooth, low-latency HDR gaming.
These three new monitors bring comprehensive physical connectivity with two HDMI 2.1 ports, a USB hub and a DisplayPort 1.4 input. Users will also enjoy greater comfort and convenience thanks to VESA mount compatibility and a Height Adjustable Stand (HAS) that allows the monitor to tilt, swivel and rotate.
Connected Odyssey experiences in a complete ecosystem
The Odyssey OLED G9 and Odyssey OLED G8 now offer Multi-Control, a new feature that provides seamless device connectivity for an easier, enhanced multi-device experience. This feature allows users to easily transfer images and/or text from their Samsung monitor to other Samsung devices and vice versa – including a Galaxy Book, tablet or phone – for a simpler, more efficient mouse and keyboard workflow.
In addition, the Odyssey OLED G9 and Odyssey OLED G8 models have built-in Samsung SmartThings Hub, so users can connect to various IoT devices that are compatible with Matter protocol and the Device Connectivity Alliance (HCA) for device control.
When you switch from work to play, the Odyssey OLED G9 and Odyssey OLED G8 monitors become all-in-one entertainment centers. Equipped with the Samsung Smart TV platform and Samsung Gaming Hub, they offer access to streaming and cloud gaming services without downloads, storage limitations or the need for a PC/console.
Elegant design that beautifies any space
For the first time in the Odyssey line, Samsung has added flat OLED monitor options and a 16:9 aspect ratio for the Odyssey OLED G8 and Odyssey OLED G6 models. The new models feature the Odyssey OLED line’s unique slim metal design and include the new Core Lighting+ feature that fits into a slim bezel.
The Core Lighting+ feature brings users into the gaming and entertainment environment by emitting ambient lighting from the monitor’s background. And with a lighting circle that is four times thinner than the previous model (G95SC), it fits perfectly into a slim 3.9mm metal frame. There’s also a new thin metal stand that mounts without tools thanks to a 3mm metal plate that matches the monitor’s design and leaves room for other devices.
With the introduction of these new models, Samsung has further strengthened its OLED line and leadership position in the gaming monitor market. Innovations in the Odyssey OLED segment and continuous improvements to the Odyssey Neo series – which last year saw the launch of the world’s first Dual UHD gaming monitor with the 57-inch Odyssey Neo G9 – provide features and performance that will help shape the future of gaming.
