NVIDIA released the ultimate gaming beast: GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GPU in a clinch with AMD 7900 XTX for the same money
If you’re looking for the best gaming experience in 2024, you need to consider the company’s latest product Nvidia: GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GPU. This graphics card is designed to deliver impressive performance in 4K resolution with all the additions and architectural innovations There’s Lovelacesuch as Ray tracing and artificial intelligence acceleration, reports WccfTech.
The GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GPU is not only faster and more powerful than its predecessor, the RTX 4080, but also cheaper. It costs $999, which is the same price as the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, its main competitor. But how does it fare when compared in terms of specs, features and performance?
GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GPU specifications and features
The RTX 4080 SUPER GPU is based on the AD103-400 GPU (PG139 SKU 355), which has the following specifications:
- 10,240 cores, 320 TMUs, 112 ROPs and 64 MB L2 cache
- Clock speeds of 2295 MHz base and 2550 MHz enhanced
- 16 GB of GDDR6X memory at 23 Gbps
- 320 W total power (TGP) and 246 W average power during gaming
- 52 Shader TFLOPs, 121 RT TFLOPs i 836 AI TOPs
- Support for DLSS 3.5, AV1 and H.264 encoding technologies
These numbers are impressive, especially compared to the RTX 4080 Non-SUPER, which has fewer cores, lower clock speeds and slower memory. The RTX 4080 SUPER GPU also has a slight edge over the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, which has 10,240 cores, 320 TMUs, 128 ROPs, and 64 MB of L2 cache, but lower clock speeds and memory bandwidth.
The RTX 4080 SUPER GPU also boasts some of the most advanced features of the Ada Lovelace architecture, such as:
- Ray tracing: This technology simulates realistic lighting effects, such as shadows, reflections and refractions, by tracing the path of light rays in scenes. The RTX 4080 SUPER GPU can process Ray tracing at high resolutions and frame rates, thanks to its special RT cores and Tensor cores, which accelerate the calculations and AI algorithms involved in the process.
- DLSS 3.5: This is the latest version of NVIDIA’s deep learning super-sampling technology, which uses artificial intelligence to upscale images from lower resolutions to higher ones without sacrificing quality or performance. DLSS 3.5 can improve image quality and frame rate in games that support it, such as Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, and Control.
- AV1 and H.264: These are video coding technologies that compress video data to reduce file size and bandwidth consumption, without compromising visual quality. The RTX 4080 SUPER GPU supports both AV1 and H.264, which means it can easily stream and record high-quality videos.
According to NVIDIA benchmarks in practice, the RTX 4080 SUPER GPU is on average about 3% faster than the RTX 4080 Non-SUPER GPU, and up to 5% faster on custom models. This may not seem like a huge difference, but it can make a noticeable impact on the gaming experience, especially at 4K resolution.
GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GPU vs AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU
The RTX 4080 SUPER GPU also outperforms the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU in most scenarios, especially when Ray tracing and DLSS are enabled. The RDNA 3 GPU may have an advantage in some rasterized games, such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Red Dead Redemption 2, but the NVIDIA GPU leads the way in games that use more advanced graphics features, such as Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs Legion, and Metro Exodus.
The RTX 4080 SUPER GPU also offers a 2x improvement over the RTX 3080 Ti with frame-gen applied, a technology that reduces processor bottlenecks and improves frame rate stability. This means that the RTX 4080 SUPER GPU can handle CPU-limited scenarios better than the older Ampere and Turing cards.
The RTX 4080 SUPER GPU will be available on January 31st in Founders Edition and Non-FE models, starting at $999. The Founders Edition features a sleek design with two fans, a 12-pin power connector, and a metal back. On the other hand, Non-FE models will be made by NVIDIA’s partners, such as ASUS.
