Most people use Apple CarPlay mainly to listen to FM/AM radio
There is a lot of talk and debate about whether Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is better. However, the latest user habits research data suggest that most people use these advanced software aids and applications in their cars to listen to FM/AM radio. Sounds a bit surprising, doesn’t it?
It’s the year 2023, and you might expect that with all the technological innovations, good old AM/FM radio is on its way out, but new data shows that’s not the case for most users.
New data on user habits has been published by Edison Research. They surveyed people 13 and older about how they spend their time in the car. The results are divided into two categories: the results of people who do not have Android Auto or CarPlay and those who have the option of using one of the two advanced platforms for driving assistance.
People who don’t have either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto:
- 67% of their time is spent listening to AM/FM radio
- 9% of their time is spent listening to streaming services such as Apple Music
- 12% of their time is spent listening to SiriusXM
- 4% of their time is spent listening to a podcast
- 8% of the time they spend listening to something “else”
People with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto system:
- 46% of their time is spent listening to AM/FM radio
- 18% of their time is spent listening to streaming services such as Apple Music
- 19% of their time is spent listening to SiriusXM
- 7% of their time is spent listening to a podcast
- 10% of the time they spend listening to something “else”
According to data, people who have the option to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto spend about twice as much time listening to streaming music in their cars than those who do not have the option to use the advanced software, reports 9to5Mac.
What is most surprising, however, is the sheer amount of time people spend listening to FM/AM radio in their cars. Many of us, especially the younger generation, don’t even know how to listen to the radio in the car. What is the case with you, do you also belong to a group of people with these driving habits?
