Everything we know so far about the OneUI 6.1 update

Samsung is preparing for the launch OneUI 6.1, the latest version of its custom Android platform, less than three months after the previous major update, 6.0, was released. All eyes are on January 17, 2024 as the official date for this year's event Samsung Galaxy Unpackedwhere the Galaxy S24 flagship series will debut together with OneUI 6.1.

Amid numerous rumors and leaks regarding the upcoming upgrade, the focus is firmly on integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the user experience.

The leaks, starting in early December 2023, have provided a glimpse of the potential features awaiting Samsung users:

  • AI-Generated Wallpapers: Introducing dynamic wallpapers, initially only available on the Pixel 8, with weather and portrait effects.
  • Manipulation of objects in photos: An innovative feature that allows users to move objects in images and even transplant them to different images using artificial intelligence.
  • Augmenting photos with AI: Letting photos go beyond their limits with an online option that requires a Samsung account.
  • Improved AI-powered Samsung keyboard: The ability to change the tone of highlighted text using AI and a potential auto-format button in the Notes app.
  • Live translation during calls: Real-time translation during phone calls.
  • Voice Focus Implementation: Improving call clarity in noisy environments, similar to Clear Calling.
  • Possible Ultra HDR support: Hints of advanced HDR support, especially with the launch of the Galaxy S24.

In late December, new leaks revealed additional features expected in OneUI 6.1, coinciding with the launch of the Galaxy S24 series:

  • Zoom Anyplace: Leveraging the 200MP ISOCELL sensor and Qualcomm's AI model for revolutionary camera capabilities.
  • Good Lock 2024: A follow-up to the recent Good Lock 6.0, introducing new features like Keys Cafe and fixing ClockFace issues.
  • Improved Samsung keyboard: Apart from changing the tone of sentences (as previously leaked), zero integration of translation functions.
  • One-Hand + Bug Fixes: Fixing long-standing issues for improved user experience.

Although the leak promises that all Samsung mobile devices will receive the OneUI 6.1 update, the timeframe for its distribution remains unknown, it says TalkAndroid. The update is expected to first appear on devices running the latest OneUI 6.0 version, possibly at the same time as the Galaxy S24 series is unveiled at the upcoming Unpacked event.

While Samsung fans eagerly await the launch of the Galaxy S24 series and the accompanying OneUI 6.1 upgrade, integration of AI functions promises to take the user experience to new heights. Stay tuned until January 17th as our team has already traveled to the Galaxy Unpacked event.
